KIM Denounces Fake Statement, Seeks Responsible Media Verification

Kuki Inpi Manipur condemned a fabricated statement circulated online and urged media houses to verify information before publishing sensitive content.
Kanggui, June 2026: Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has strongly condemned the circulation of a fake and unauthorized statement purportedly issued in its name and has called upon media houses and social media platforms to exercise greater responsibility in verifying information before publication.
In a press release, KIM clarified that the so-called “Clarification Statement” bearing reference number 05/KIM/PR22-41, which has been circulating on various social media platforms, was neither issued nor approved by the organization. KIM described the document as completely fabricated and intended to mislead the public.
The organization expressed serious concern over what it termed as a deliberate attempt by certain individuals or groups to tarnish the image of Kuki Inpi Manipur and create confusion at a time when ethnic relations in the region remain highly sensitive. It condemned the creation and circulation of false information, stating that such actions are unethical, irresponsible, and capable of aggravating existing tensions.
KIM also questioned the credibility and professionalism of media outlets and online platforms that published or shared the alleged statement without first verifying its authenticity with the competent authority. According to the organization, dissemination of unverified information undermines journalistic ethics and contributes to misinformation, mistrust, and social discord.
The organization stressed that media institutions have a responsibility to verify facts before publishing sensitive content, particularly in conflict-affected regions where misinformation can have serious consequences. It called for greater accountability, immediate correction of inaccurate reports, and strict adherence to ethical standards of journalism.
Appealing to media houses, civil society organizations, community leaders, and the public, KIM urged all stakeholders to act responsibly and refrain from spreading unverified information. The organization emphasized the importance of promoting truth, restraint, and responsible communication in the interest of peace and communal harmony.
Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful coexistence and responsible public discourse, Kuki Inpi Manipur called upon all sections of society to work collectively towards preventing misinformation and maintaining stability in the region.
