Kuki Inpi Demands Action Over Kuki Village Burnings
Kuki Inpi Manipur has demanded urgent government action over Kuki village burnings, citing repeated attacks and alleged security failures.
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has demanded immediate intervention from the Government of India and the Government of Manipur over the continued Kuki village burnings, following the latest attack on Phaimol village in Kamjong district. The organisation alleged that armed cadres of the NSCN-IM and the Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA) were responsible for the incident, which it described as part of a sustained campaign targeting Kuki habitations.
Security Lapse Raises Serious Questions
KIM stated that the latest Kuki village burnings are particularly alarming because Phaimol village had reportedly been under the protection of the Assam Rifles until security personnel vacated the post a day before the arson. The organisation has called for an immediate and transparent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the withdrawal, arguing that the timing raises serious concerns over security arrangements in vulnerable villages.
Pattern of Repeated Kuki Village Burnings
The organisation asserted that the attack on Phaimol is not an isolated incident but the latest in a series of Kuki village burnings reported during 2026. It cited incidents in K. Songlung, Litan-Sareikhong, Songphel, Mullam, Lanchah, Molnoi, Kharam Vaiphei, Loibol Khullen and Kultuh Village, claiming that the repeated destruction of villages reflects a continuing pattern of violence rather than isolated law-and-order incidents.
Calls for Stronger Government Response
KIM also questioned the alleged involvement of NSCN-IM cadres in attacks on civilian villages despite the group's ceasefire agreement with the Government of India. It further described the reported role of the SNA as a cross-border security concern and urged the Union Government to strengthen border management while engaging with the Government of Myanmar to prevent armed groups from launching attacks into Indian territory.

The organisation appealed to the Union Government, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Government of Manipur and security agencies to take immediate and decisive measures to end the Kuki village burnings, address alleged security failures, protect vulnerable communities and ensure that those responsible for attacks on civilian populations are brought to justice.

KIM alleges that aggressive military-style actions, including cordon-and-search operations and house-to-house raids, are being carried out against civilians already affected by violence and economic blockade. The organisation also highlights the ongoing blockade of essential supplies and demands immediate restoration of lifelines, cessation of civilian harassment, and deployment of security forces to clear national highways instead of targeting villages.
