Kuki Inpi Manipur condemned the burning of Kharam Vaiphei village and urged authorities to investigate, identify perpetrators, and prevent escalation.

Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has strongly condemned the burning of Kharam Vaiphei village, which it alleged was carried out by the ZUF Kamson group, describing the incident as a provocative act capable of worsening tensions between the Kuki and Naga communities.

In a press statement issued on Friday, KIM stated that such acts of aggression and intimidation are deeply regrettable and come at a time when restraint, peace, and responsible conduct are most needed. The organisation warned that continued violence risks further endangering the lives and security of ordinary people and undermining efforts to maintain harmony between communities.

KIM said the Kuki-Zo people have consistently exercised restraint and remained committed to democratic and peaceful means despite what it described as repeated provocations and continued suffering. However, the organisation asserted that attempts to oppress the community, violate its rights, undermine its dignity, and threaten its ancestral lands cannot be tolerated indefinitely.

Reaffirming its position, KIM stated that the Kuki-Zo people would never compromise on safeguarding their lands, protecting the lives and security of their people, and defending the welfare and future of the community. It warned that any agenda aimed at intimidating or marginalising the Kuki-Zo people would be firmly resisted.

The organisation also urged the Government and security agencies to immediately intervene, conduct an impartial investigation into the incident, identify those responsible, and take swift action to prevent further deterioration of law and order. According to KIM, failure to act decisively could embolden elements seeking to destabilise inter-community relations and disturb peace in the region.

While reiterating its commitment to peace, coexistence, and equality, KIM cautioned that the Kuki-Zo people would not remain silent if their rights and security continued to face threats.
