Kuki Inpi Manipur temporarily suspended the shutdown, citing positive government assurances while warning stronger agitations if commitments remain unfulfilled.

Kangpokpi, May 30, 2026: Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), along with Joint Kuki-Zo Civil Society Organisations, tribe bodies, and student organisations, has announced the temporary suspension of the shutdown imposed across Kuki-Zo-inhabited districts following discussions with the Government on May 29 and 30.

According to a press statement issued by KIM, the decision was taken after consecutive rounds of consultations that reportedly resulted in positive outcomes and assurances from the Government regarding issues affecting the Kuki-Zo people. The organisation described the move as a gesture of goodwill, cooperation, and commitment to maintaining law and order.

KIM stated that the temporary suspension of the shutdown was made in the larger public interest to facilitate administrative processes and provide the Government an opportunity to act responsibly in addressing the concerns of the Kuki-Zo community. However, it emphasised that the decision should not be interpreted as a compromise on the community's demands, rights, or political position.

The organisation noted that the Kuki-Zo people have demonstrated restraint, patience, and cooperation despite continued hardships and expressed hope that the Government would reciprocate the gesture with tangible action, sincerity, and accountability.

At the same time, KIM warned that any failure, delay, negligence, or lack of visible action by the Government during the period of temporary relaxation would compel the Kuki-Zo people to intensify the shutdown and democratic agitations. The organisation asserted that responsibility for any such escalation would rest with the Government if commitments were not fulfilled.

KIM also thanked the Kuki-Zo public for their unity, discipline, and support throughout the shutdown and public movement, reaffirming that the collective struggle would continue until justice, security, and guarantees for the community are ensured.
