Kuki Inpi Manipur Condemns North East Live for Baseless Allegations Against Kuki Community
Kuki Inpi expressed deep condolences over the killing of Mr. Chunjanglung Panmei while strongly criticizing Northeast Live for allegedly linking the incident to “Kuki militants” without evidence or verification. KIM stated that the incident occurred in an area with no Kuki presence and warned against ethnic profiling and irresponsible reporting. The organisation called for a fair investigation into the killing and urged authorities to ensure justice for all victims of violence in Manipur since 2023.
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) deeply condoles the tragic killing of Mr. Chunjanglung Panmei and extends its sincere condolences to his grieving family. No family should ever have to endure such a loss.
At the same time, KIM strongly condemns the highly irresponsible and biased reporting by Northeast Live. In its news flash, the channel hastily alleged the involvement of “Kuki militants” without presenting any evidence, proof, or verification.
KIM notes that the incident occurred in Pongringlon, an area where there is no Kuki settlement and no Kuki presence. To implicate an entire community without substantiation is not journalism. Such reporting amounts to dangerous ethnic labelling that risks inflaming tensions and deepening divisions in an already fragile situation.
KIM further expresses concern over what it describes as a recurring pattern of name-calling and community shaming without established facts. Reckless reporting of this nature undermines public trust and damages the credibility of the media.
While urging the authorities to conduct an immediate, fair, and transparent investigation into the killing of Mr. Chunjanglung Panmei, KIM also calls for all crimes committed in Manipur since 2023 to be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted. Every victim, irrespective of ethnicity, community, or background, deserves justice.
KIM reiterates that selective justice and selective journalism will only deepen existing wounds. Manipur needs truth, accountability, and responsible reporting, not speculation and propaganda.
The organisation emphasizes that the pursuit of justice must be guided by facts, evidence, and due process. Media organisations likewise carry a responsibility to uphold professional standards and avoid narratives that unfairly target entire communities without proof. Only through truth, accountability, and responsible journalism can lasting peace and reconciliation be achieved.

Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) strongly condemns what it describes as continuous harassment of Kuki-Zo villagers by Central Security Forces under the guise of combing operations, particularly in Leilon Vaiphei and surrounding areas. KIM alleges that aggressive military-style actions, including cordon-and-search operations and house-to-house raids, are being carried out against civilians already affected by violence and economic blockade. The organisation also highlights the ongoing blockade of essential supplies and demands immediate restoration of lifelines, cessation of civilian harassment, and deployment of security forces to clear national highways instead of targeting villages.
