KIM Seeks Governor's Support for Kuki-Zo Union Territory

Kuki Inpi Manipur welcomed Governor Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, expressing hope for justice, peace, and reconciliation while urging consideration of a Union Territory for Kuki-Zo people.
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, extending its congratulations on his appointment and expressing hope that his tenure will contribute to justice, peace, and reconciliation in the state.
In the memorandum, KIM welcomed the Governor and acknowledged his distinguished service to the nation, particularly his experience as the Union Home Secretary. The organisation stated that his extensive administrative experience inspires confidence among the Kuki-Zo people that he will approach the challenges facing Manipur with fairness, wisdom, and sensitivity.
KIM noted that, under normal circumstances, it would have been its privilege to personally call on the Governor at Raj Bhavan to extend a formal welcome. However, the prevailing conflict and the continuing hardships faced by the Kuki-Zo community have made such an interaction difficult at the present time.
The memorandum highlighted the aspirations and concerns of the Kuki-Zo people, who have faced prolonged insecurity and uncertainty in recent years. KIM expressed hope that the Governor would give due consideration to the rights, welfare, and future of the community while carrying out his constitutional responsibilities.
A key point raised in the memorandum was the request for the Governor's intervention in recommending the creation of a Union Territory for the Kuki-Zo people under Article 239A of the Constitution of India. According to KIM, such an arrangement would provide a pathway towards ensuring safety, equality, and meaningful self-governance for the community.
The organisation further expressed confidence that the Governor's experience in handling complex national issues would enable him to approach the concerns of the Kuki-Zo people with empathy and understanding. KIM reiterated its hope that his leadership would contribute to advancing justice, restoring trust, and fostering lasting peace in Manipur.
Concluding the memorandum, KIM once again welcomed Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla to Manipur and wished him success in discharging the responsibilities of his office.
